Social Media

One of my responsibilities was preparing weekly newsletters for the majority of the Democratic Caucus, which they would send out to thousands of Iowans. I also prepared two Issues in a Box with a week long social media campaign for each as my final project.

My time as Summer Digital Editor for the Iowa State Daily and experience laying the ground work for the Daily Dose gave me a good idea of what to expect when it came to newsletters and social media, which time time as Public Relations Chair for Student Government prepared me for as well. My work from JLMC 316 allowed me to design my posts using Adobe Illustrator.

Below are some examples of work I helped create as well as my final project for my internship.

A majority of the photos I took made it into weekly newsletters
for constituents. In this newsletter, all of the photos were taken by me and captioned by another intern.

After producing the Black Hawk Legislative Updates, it was also my responsibility to post them on each of their Facebook Pages. I liked coming up with fun descriptions when I could.
A screenshot from a press conference I live streamed. It was my responsibility to set up the microphone and tablet and ensure they operated in preparation for the live stream.

As part of finishing my internship remotely, my final project was to create two Issues in a Box, a tool the House Democrats use for communicating our legislative agenda. I chose funding public education, which was one of the five key points Democrats focused on this year, but I chose Outbreak Prevention for the second, as it seemed relevant and necessary. You can download those files below as well as view my graphics I created as part of the social media campaign for each issue.
