During my Spring semester in 2020, I had the opportunity to intern with the Iowa House of Representatives Democrats Communications Staff. The internship was very rewarding, as I got to combine my communications background with my passion for serving others. I learned a lot about the legislative process through attending subcommittee meetings and full House debates. I got to practice everything I’ve been learning in school, plus the Capitol is just a cool building to work in.

I photographed a variety of State Representatives on a daily basis and often filmed videos for them or clipped comments from debate to post on social media. I got to create social media posts both for the House Democrats page as well as specific legislators.

I had a blast, but unfortunately it ended early due to COVID-19. Nonetheless, you can still view much of the work I was able to accomplish in the time I was there! You can also check out my final paper for the Greenlee School about the internship!
