Hello, welcome to my portfolio!
My name is Ian.
I’m a motivated leader, energetic event host, effective communicator and public servant. I value compassion, integrity, freedom of speech, ethical behavior, service to others, equity, truth and fairness.
As you peruse my portfolio, take some time to really browse through the variety of my work, from photography and video work to voice over and writing! I have extensive experience in politics, government and public speaking settings. I can confidently perform administrative duties, manage others, engage with the public and manage communications.
Currently, I manage and host for Think & Drink Entertainment. We provide entertainment such as trivia and music bingo for restaurants, businesses and other organizations. I also pick up occasional acting or emcee gigs as they come around. I host music bingo at both Wellman’s locations (West Des Moines on Tuesday and Ingersoll on Wednesday). Both events start at 7pm, so stop by and see me in action sometime! In this role I promote our events regularly on social media, manage & train a handful of employees, and cover hosting duties as needed.
Recently I worked as a Legislative Clerk with the Iowa House Democrats for the 2021 and 2025 legislative sessions. Here I gained a lot of experience regarding state government, the legislative process and managing the schedules of others. I’ve also managed two Iowa House campaigns, where I learned a ton about volunteer recruitment, fundraising, schedule management, event planning and the importance of community engagement. I even have eight years under my belt in food service and have been an Uber driver for two years.
I am a Spring 2020 graduate of Iowa State University, having majored in journalism & mass communication, with a double minor in performing arts and German. Right now I’m on the job hunt as I just finished up a contract clerk position with the Iowa House of Representatives.
My adventure at Iowa State was phenomenal. I had the opportunity to serve students as a senator on Student Government and work with prospective students as both a Student Admissions Representative (STAR) and Liberal Arts & Sciences Ambassador! I wrote and edited for the Iowa State Daily, was involved in ISU Theatre as a director and actor, had opportunities to work with Ames City Council, emceed the ISU Fashion show, did voice-over for departments on campus and picked up some other cool acting gigs along the way.
I enjoy playing ukulele, longboarding, cooking, photography and just relaxing in my free time. I’m currently on the job hunt and open to new opportunities — especially those that blend creativity, leadership, and community engagement.
